CREATING A SECOND-SKIN
Zora Volantes is forging herself a second skin in the so-called second skin Project. This ongoing project is the central theme. It is based on the concept that paper and colours can serve as a surrogate skin.

By creating visually striking sculptures and performances, Zora Volantes aims to stimulate conversations about identity, diversity, and acceptance – questioning the second skin that everyone wears.

Second Skin aims to challenge social norms. The focus is on one's individual value in society and personal significance in relation to nature and the environment.

These
Skin Sculptures are called Wombs. Womb refers to a dark, sheltered space where life emerges or can emerge, comparable to a cocoon.

When the artist Zora Volantes performs inside a Womb, it becomes an Inhabited Womb. If the sculpture is not occupied by a living being inside, it can be placed over a metal frame and illuminated - creating a sculpture called a Luminous Womb.
