Performance in Istanbul, 2015

From head to toe, the artist is cloaked in red, complete with red and white face paint. The colours represent the flag of Turkey, a secular nation whose population is nonetheless almost entirely Muslim. The performance begins in a field of white tulips, the national flower, and reveals the artist in a tranquil state, she then repeatedly jumps into the Bosphorus holding a large red shawl to wash the color from the skin.
